2020 has seen a HUGE boom in people training at home. In fact, a global market report found that home workout equipment was one the biggest growing economic markets on the planet, growing from $6.76 billion in 2019 to $9.49 billion in 2020 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 40.4%.
This means that millions of people will finally be experiencing the benefits of working out at home, rather than in a gym or class environment. Because regardless of Covid, there are some significant advantages to training at home, and in this article, we’re going to covering each of them.
Working Out at Home Is More Time-Efficient
Think about your typical trip to the gym. You either walk, cycle or drive for 15 to 20 minutes to the gym, do your workout, and travel 15-20 minutes home. That’s 30-40 minutes of time wasted just sat around in your car or walking from point A to point B.
When you work out from home there’s none of this wasted time. You decide that you want to train and then 2 minutes later you’re training, easy as that.

When you’re at a gym it can be hard to get useful feedback and analyze your technique. You can try to set up your phone, but it can often be incredibly difficult to find a decent angle, especially if there are lots of other people wandering around.
At home, however, you can set up feedback devices to record yourself and improve your technique, which is crucial for long term progress. You don’t have to worry about the gym’s rules on recording devices, and you don’t have to worry about accidentally recording other people who might not want to be on video.

In most gyms, especially at busy times, you’re often fighting for space and equipment, and your workout can end up looking pretty different to what you had planned. Similarly, in group exercise classes you can end up working at someone else’s pace, meaning a workout that is either too hard or too easy.
Working out at home puts all of that back within your control. You have access to all the equipment you need exactly when you need, and you get to work at your own pace. Instead of your workouts being too easy or too hard, they’ll be exactly right for you as an individual.

Working out from home is free, more time efficient, more private, gives you complete control over your training, makes it easier to improve your technique, works better for parents, is way more time-efficient, and doesn’t require you to remember to pack and bring a bunch of things with you every time.
And if that wasn’t enough to convince you, then it’s also worth factoring in that in 2020 (and probably a good amount of of 2021) it’s much safer. At the end of the day, you can still make fantastic progress towards almost any health and fitness goal whilst training at home, so there are very few drawbacks, and as we’ve discussed already, there are plenty of benefits.
